This is an incident that happened to Sheikh Abdul Rahman ibn Faris, رحمه الله... (died 1359 AH). Sheikh Hamoud Al-Tuwaijri رحمه الله said:
And from the stories is what Sheikh Abdul Al-Rahman bin Faris bin Abdul Aziz Al-Faris told us, a resident of the city of Riyadh.
He said:
A great overflow of water came in the river of Hanifa in the year thirteen hundred and fifty-nine AH (1359 AH) and it swept away the area causing an erosion of the upland next to the graves of the Companions رضي الله عنهم who were killed on the Day of Al-Yamamah in the year eleven AH “11 AH”, and a hole was cut into one of the graves on the side wall of the valley.. The dead body that was in it was visible.
Then, Sheikh “Abd al-Rahman” said:
I was informed of this while I was in the area of “Al-Jubaila, so I quickly arrived and found that the location of the grave was so high in the valley that it could not be reached except by using a ladder.
He said:
So, I brought some wooden poles to climb on to reach the grave. I saw the dead person in his grave, nothing had changed in him, as if he was sleeping! He was shrouded in a white cloak, and the cloak was tied to him with palm leaves. His face, eyes, teeth, and feet were visible, and one of the curls of his head about a cubit long emerged hanging out of the grave.
He added:
So I raised it and put it in the shroud and I placed my hand on the side of his face, (I felt) as if I had placed my hand on ( the face of ) a sleeping man.
He said :
His face was white, tending to be brown and he had a grey-haired beard. His eyes were slightly open. The palm leaves with which the cloak was tied up have remained green although they were dry.
He said:
When the people of “Al-Jubaila” and those around them heard about it, they started coming in order to see him, so the imam who led the people of “Al-Jubaila” in prayer and the head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue went to Sheikh “Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al-Sheikh” and informed him of this. He ordered them to take with them men and a coffin to carry the dead, and he ordered them to dig a grave for him at night in the middle of the graves and bury him and hide his grave by making it look the same as the other graves around it so that people would not be tempted by it. So they did.” End.
Then Sheikh Hamoud Al-Tuwaijri رحمه الله said:
There is no doubt that this deceased was one of the martyrs who were killed in the battle that took place between the Companions (of the prophet ﷺ) and the companions of Musaylimah the Liar, so it is possible that he is one of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, because it is well known to the people that the graves in that place are the graves of the Companions. (Or) It is possible that he was one of those who was fighting with the Companions and not among them, and the first possibility is more likely, and Allah knows best. There were one thousand three hundred and forty-eight years (1348 years) between the Battle of Al-Yamamah and the appearance of this dead person. Despite this long period, the martyr remained as he was, nothing changed in him and his shroud did not change, nor the palm leaves with which it was tied. This is a lesson for those who have correct understanding and sound minds.”
