TYPES OF RECONCILIATION AND IT’S VIRTUES – SHAYKH SALIH AL-FAWZAN

TYPES OF RECONCILIATION AND IT’S VIRTUES

Question: The other questioner says about the statement of the Prophet ﷺ ‘’Reconciling between the Muslims is permissible, except for reconciliation that forbids that which is allowed, or allows something that is forbidden.’’ [1] what are the aspects of the permissible reconciliation and what are its virtues?

Answer: Yes, reconciliation is settling the dispute between those who are disputing with each other, and this is what is sought after; that they reconcile between those who are in dispute, and this is the from greatest form of obedience (towards Allah) likewise from the types of reconciliation is: the reconciliation between the tribes, if there is a dispute between the tribes or a fight between them then they reconcile between each other. Allaah [Glorified and Exalted is the Most High] said:

‘’And if two parties or groups among the believers fall into fighting, then reconcile between them’’ [2] until the end of the verse.

Likewise, the reconciliation between the spouses if there occurs a discord between them, then they reconcile between each other or they set up an arbitrator one from his family and an arbitrator from her family who brings about an agreement whether they separate or remain together. And that is from the types of reconciliation, the reconciliation between the spouses.

‘’And if a woman fears cruelty or desertion on her husband’s part, there is no sin on them both if they make terms of peace between themselves; and making peace is better.’’ [3]

So either they reconcile that which is between them, or they interfere in a judge and set up the two judges (from each side) who looks into the dispute between them and reconcile between them.
